Drs. Niemeyer and Elkadragy awarded Pilot Grants from SIR
The Department of Radiology at the University of Illinois College of Medicine is pleased to announce that Drs. Matthew Niemeyer and Lobna Elkadragy are both repients of Pilot Grants from the Society of Interventional Radiology (SIR) Foundation.
SIR Foundation has a goal to have diverse perspectives in interventional radiology, and funds basic science, translational science, and clinical research projects. There are fewer than five to ten Pilot Research grants administered per year for interventional radiology research.
Dr. Niemeyer’s research for the grant is titled “Biodistribution of Yttrium-90 Radioembolization in a Porcine Lung Cancer Model.”
Dr. Matthew Niemeyer is an interventional radiologist in the UICOM Department of Radiology. He graduated from the University of Michigan Medical School in 2009, after which he completed his residency at Mallinckrodt Institute of Radiology and his fellowship at Northwestern Memorial Hospital. He joined the department in 07/30/2018 an Assistant Professor of Radiology (tenure track) at the UICOM, where he also serves as Director of Clinical Operations for the division of interventional radiology as well as the Associate Program Director for the Integrated Interventional Radiology residency program.
Dr. Elkadragy’s research for the grant is titled “Precision Porcine Hepatocellular Carcinoma Models for Testing Novel Interventional Radiology Therapeutic Approaches.”
Dr. Lobna Elkadragy is a postdoctoral research associate in the Department of Radiology. She received her Ph.D. degree in Biomedical Sciences from Wright State University. She specializes in large animal cancer research predominantly using the Oncopig model. She joined the departmental research team in 12/3/2018
